Floor slip resistance test measure the safety of any floor in dry as well as wet conditions. It is used to rate the floor for its slippery surface. Slippery floors are not under the regulations and floor slip resistance should be regulated according to the laws.
The risk assessment is done through the slip resistance test. Pendulum test is a valid test for slip resistance and considered to be the genuine test for monitoring the floor slip resistance. Friction test and micro-roughness test are also used for the purpose of measuring the slip resistance of floor surface and its friction levels.
Pendulum test values or PTV ratings are the yardsticks for the slip resistance of any floor. 0 to 25 is a good rating, 25 to 35 is a moderate range, however above that deems to be dangerous value for any floor even in dry condition. Above 35 is potentially high stakes for slip accidents according to floor testing UK regulations and possible injuries as a result.
The areas like swimming pools and stairs are more dangerous if the PTV is lower. In these places the PTV should be in the higher ranges like in between 0 to 25. Even the moderate range for plain surface is considered hazardous for stairs and swimming pools.
If the pendulum test shows the potential harmful ratings of slip resistance of a floor then anti-slip treatment is recommended in which different methods are applied to make the floor safe and non slippery by applying anti-slip for tiles.
